How to Begin A Denver Kitchen Remodeling Project

November 22, 2017

Remodeling your kitchen can be a huge project. In the beginning, many homeowners feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. Should you start with the cabinets? Flooring? Countertops? Slow down! Here’s how you should begin a Denver kitchen remodeling project:

Set goals.

The first thing you should do is set goals for the kitchen remodeling project so you know what you want to accomplish. For some homeowners, the goal of the remodel is to add more storage or countertop space in their kitchen. Others may be focused solely on replacing outdated countertops, flooring, appliances, or cabinetry. Figure out what you want out of your remodel and share this information with your team so they can begin to suggest ideas on how you can reach your goal. Filling out this kitchen goals worksheet together is a great way to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Calculate the budget.

Before getting into the details, figure out how much you are willing to spend in order to reach your goals. Then, share this number with your contractor and ask if it’s possible to get what you want with the budget that you have set. Even though you won’t have any details planned yet, a contractor should still be able to tell you whether it’s possible to update everything in your kitchen or create more space with the budget that you have set.

Look for inspiration.

Now that the goals and budget have been established, start looking for inspiration. It can be hard to choose materials, paint colors, and fabrics just by looking at swatches. Instead, use Pinterest to search for remodeled kitchens so you can see how everything comes together. For example, let’s say you’re drawn to Agatha Black granite, but aren’t sure how this color will look in a kitchen. Simply search for “Agatha Black granite kitchens” on Pinterest so you can see exactly what it will look like once it’s installed. Pin all of the images that you love onto a Pinterest board that is dedicated to this remodeling project so you can show everything to your contractor.

Be willing to adjust.

You won’t always be able to get exactly what you want if you have a tight budget, so it’s important to be flexible with your plans. For instance, if you can’t afford the Agatha Black granite, let your contractor know that you are willing to consider inexpensive alternatives that can help you achieve the same look for much less. This will make it much easier for your contractor to build your dream kitchen.
